STUDENT ELIGIBILITY RULES FOR TRAVEL (NWABSD S.H page 53)

In order to participate in extra/co-curricular activities, students in grades 4 through 12 must demonstratesatisfactory educational progress. Student activities participants lower than 4th grade are NOT approved to travel on District sponsored trips.Students will be eligible to participate in extra/co-curricular activities. Eligibility will be based on the previous quarter grades and bi-monthly grade checks. The bi-weekly grade checks will be due every other Wednesday and will determine eligibility for the upcoming two-week period. The following criteria will determine eligibility.

Students will be eligible to participate in extra/co-curricular activities.

4th/5th Grade Eligibility will be based upon the teacher's recommendation to the principal. The Principal makes final determination on the student's eligibility that include current grades, attendance, and behavior.

6th-8th Grade Eligibility will be based upon prior quarter grades and bi-monthly grade checks. 9th-12th Grade Eligibility will be based upon prior semester grades and bi-monthly grade checks. The bi-weekly grade checks will be due every other Monday @ 9:00 AM and will determine eligibility for the upcoming two-week period. The following criteria will determine eligibility.

  1. Students in grades 6-12 (6-12 for boat/snow machine travel) will be eligible for extra-curricular activity and travel if the student:

    1. A "C" (2.0) average, with no "F's" to compete and travel in student activities:

    2. Students with less than a "C" (2.0) average can still practice and be part of an organization;

    3. Maintains an acceptable behavior and attendance as assessed by the Principal during the participation period of time. Students in grades 9-12 must also adhere to all Alaska School Activities Association rules for participation.

  2. All students must complete the Student Travel/Eligibility Form. In cases where the student receives a disapproval from one (1) or more teachers the Principal or designee shall make the decision to determine the student's eligibility for travel.

  3. All students are allowed a maximum of fifteen (15) days for student travel per year. Absences for travel beyond the fifteen (15) day limit must have the specific approval of the Principal.

  4. All students must be in regular attendance at school on the day of their departure and depending on the time of day the students return to their community, the Principal will decide if it is appropriate for them to return to school that day.

  5. Students over the age of 18 MUST have a photo ID to travel and it is highly recommended that students under the age of 18 carry a photo ID.
